You will be responsible for the entire theme development lifecycle from initial concept and building demo data to deployment and handoff. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who is meticulous about code quality performance and user experience. Key Responsibilities: · Develop custom WordPress themes for various niches (e.g. corporate e-commerce blog magazine) based on specifications and design files (Figma Adobe XD Sketch). · Build comprehensive one-click demo import packages that accurately replicate the live preview including customizer settings widgets and navigation menus. · Implement advanced custom fields (ACF Pro or Meta Box) to create intuitive and flexible content management experiences for clients. · Develop custom page templates template parts and block patterns (Gutenberg). · Create custom placeholders and fallback content to ensure a seamless user experience during initial setup. · Ensure all themes are fully responsive cross-browser compatible and adhere to modern web standards (HTML5 CSS3). · Optimize themes for maximum speed performance and SEO best practices. · Write clean well-documented and secure code following WordPress PHP coding standards. · Collaborate with designers project managers and other developers to deliver projects on time and to the highest standard. · Conduct quality assurance testing and troubleshoot issues across various environments. Required Skills and Qualifications: · Proven Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in custom WordPress theme development (not just page builders or child themes). · Core Technologies: Expert-level knowledge of PHP MySQL HTML5 CSS3 and JavaScript (ES6+). · WordPress Mastery: Deep understanding of the WordPress template hierarchy theme structure hooks (actions and filters) and the WordPress REST API. · Advanced Custom Fields: Extensive hands-on experience with ACF Pro (or similar) to build complex meta boxes and option pages. · Gutenberg: Strong experience developing for the block editor including creating custom blocks (ideally with ACF Blocks or native WordPress methods). · Demo Data Import: Proven ability to create and handle XML/WXR demo data imports and customizer settings export/import. · Tools & Workflow: Proficiency in Git for version control npm/yarn and a modern build process (e.g. Webpack Vite). · Performance & Security: A strong focus on writing efficient secure code and optimizing themes for performance (e.g. caching image optimization script loading). · Responsive Design: Expertise in creating responsive layouts using CSS Flexbox/Grid or frameworks like Bootstrap/Tailwind CSS. What Will Make You Stand Out (Bonus Skills): · Experience with a popular JavaScript framework (e.g. React Vue.js). · Knowledge of WooCommerce integration and customization. · Experience with WordPress plugin development. · Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) guidelines. · A portfolio that includes contributions to the WordPress core or popular open-source themes/plugins.
