Overview GovCIO is currently hiring for a Strategic Communications Specialist to support the Veterans Affairs Health Services Portfolio. The Strategic Communication Specialist serves as a key member of the Health Services Portfolio Communications team supporting internal communications employee engagement and executive communications for a mission-critical VA/OIT organization. This role sits at the intersection of strategic communications stakeholder engagement and content production requiring the ability to translate complex organizational priorities into clear plain-language messaging that resonates across diverse audiences. The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who thrives in a fast-paced cross-functional environment and enjoys managing multiple projects simultaneously. This analyst does not simply execute communication tasks they think strategically about how to reach and engage stakeholders anticipate communication needs and shape messaging that reinforces the Health Services narrative. They are equally comfortable advising an executive on talking points as they are building a SharePoint page or facilitating a Town Hall. This role is a fully remote position within the United States with core hours of operation from Monday to Friday 8AM to 5 PM ET. with the potential of occasional travel (0-15%) Responsibilities Assess and route communications requests by reviewing incoming needs recommending appropriate communications strategies facilitating discussion with requestors and driving actions through completion. Develop and distribute clear concise plain-language communications tailored to stakeholder needs across internal and external audiences. Produce executive-level content such as slide decks emails newsletters video scripts talking points and key messages that support leadership objectives. Create a wide range of digital content including newsletters weekly emails videos infographics presentations SharePoint pages and Microsoft Teams posts. Design and analyze communications surveys assisting in the creation distribution and analysis of annual surveys to inform messaging and improve effectiveness. Coordinate and support executive engagements including Town Halls Executive Briefings and Monthly Syncs by preparing materials ensuring objectives are met and facilitating a smooth experience for participants. Maintain and enhance SharePoint sites by updating content improving usability creating new pages and retiring outdated materials to keep information organized and accessible. Contribute to organizational storytelling by reinforcing the Health Services narrative consistently across communication channels. Monitor trends and best practices in internal communications to recommend improvements to tools processes and strategies. Ensure compliance and brand consistency confirming all content adheres to VA and OIT branding guidelines and complies with Section 508 accessibility requirements. Qualifications Required Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree in Business Administration Business Management Computer Science Information Systems Information Resource Management Industrial Engineering Operations Research or a related field and 5–7 years of related experience. An additional 8–10 years of relevant experience may be substituted for education. Experience working in a fast-paced cross-functional environment within government consulting or a large organization. Demonstrated ability to develop communication plans that support organizational priorities change management and stakeholder engagement. Ability to anticipate and assess communication needs identify gaps and propose actionable strategies. Experience supporting leadership or executives with communications materials. Experience translating complex or technical information into accessible plain-language messaging. Proven ability to create compelling digital content such as graphics videos and SharePoint pages. Strong facilitation coordination and meeting-support skills. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work independently take initiative and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred Experience Familiarity with VA and OIT branding guidelines and Section 508 accessibility requirements. Proficiency with communications and collaboration tooling (e.g. SharePoint Microsoft Teams email distribution platforms survey tools and graphic/video production software). Experience supporting internal communications and employee engagement programs in a federal health IT environment such as VA DoD HHS or CMS. Experience designing distributing and analyzing communications surveys to measure effectiveness. Clearance Required Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance Posted Salary Range USD $75000.00 - USD $85000.00 /Yr.
